tmd was commissioned to review the entire undergraduate teaching space across the University of Oxford. In all, some 345 different spaces were inspected. Each space was then graded, having regard to its capacity and flexibility, decoration, lighting control, acoustics, furniture, AV/IT provision, associated social space, catering facilities and provision for use by the disabled.
Over the two subsequent summers, tmd project managed the upgrade of those spaces identified as most in need of refurbishment. Phase One involved works to 65 different undergraduate teaching spaces in 11 different buildings, including the refurbishment of six major lecture theatres. Phase Two involved the refurbishment of 52 spaces in 17 buildings. Both phases required close liaison with a large number of University departments and were conducted under tight programme restraints, with all works requiring completion during the University’s summer vacation.
